Good Abstracting goes well beyond just passing the EDITS.  Below are a few checks that you can do on your abstracts to make sure you are reporting quality data.  NCDB is looking at these items as well, so be sure to check prior to submitting to NCDB.  If you are not a CoC program, these are still excellent checks to do to evaluate your data.

Class of Case 00,10,13,14 Date of Diagnosis=Date of First Contact
Class of Case 20-22 Date of First Contact=Date either Began or refused treatment at the facility *For CoC facilities, if not CoC, check your State for guidance.
Class of Case 00 Document Institution Referred To or the applicable NPI # of physician referred to for treatment
Class of Case 20-22 Document Institution Referred From or the applicable NPI# of physician referred from for treatment
Class of Case 14 Make sure all treatment or decision not to treat done at your facility
Class of Case 13 Make sure some treatment or decision not to treat done elsewhere
Class of Case 20-22 Make sure some treatment or decision not to treat done at your facility
Class of Case 10,20 Review All Generic Class of Case Codes-you should not really have many if any of these types of cases-ascertain where these cases went or came from
Patient had Surgery Enter NPI of physician who performed most definitive surgical procedure
Patient had Radiation Enter NPI of physician who performed most definitive radiation therapy
·       Does not actually have to be a medical oncologist, for example:
·       Thyroid Cancer- no external beam, but had Radioactive Iodine (I-131), enter NPI of physician that prescribed the I-131
Patient had Chemo. Hormone, Immunotherapy Enter NPI of physician prescribing the treatment in the Medical Oncologist field
·       Does not actually have to be a medical oncologist, for example:
·       Prostate Cancer-if urologist prescribes hormone, enter that NPI in Med Onc Field
·       Thyroid Cancer, enter NPI of who prescribed Synthroid in Med Onc Field
Review Covid Fields for 2020 & 2021 date of diagnosis ·       NCDB–SARSCoV2—Test should not be BLANK
·       NCDB–SARSCoV2—Pos should not be BLANK
·       NCDB–COVID19–Tx Impact should not be BLANK
·       If NCDB–SARSCoV2—Test=0 (Not Tested) then NCDB–SARSCoV2—Pos cannot = 1 Tested + {How can you test positive if you were never tested)
·       If NCDB–SARSCoV2—Pos=0 (No Positive Test) then NCDB–SARSCoV2–Pos Date should be BLANK {If patient never + then date should be blank}
